The Alley Oop comic strip was created in 1933 by V.T. Hamlin but authoring and illustration of the long-running comic has since been passed on to others. The Alley Oop character is a prehistoric caveman from the kingdom of Moo. He has a girlfriend, Ooola, rides a pet dinosaur Dinny, and wears only a fur loincloth. In an early plot twist, Alley Oop is transported into the present day using a time machine by a 20th century scientist Dr. Elbert Wonmug.

Unfazed by the sudden shift in scene and circumstances, Alley Oop then becomes a regular time traveler, journeying throughout history on new adventures that become the focus of new strips. Alley Oop is a syndicated comic strip in newspapers (Newspaper Enterprise Association.), and in 2002, Dark Horse Comics produced a limited-edition figure of the Alley Oop character in a brightly illustrated tin container.
