  • Mortal Kombat 1 Unveils Takeda Takahashi as Next DLC Fighter in Flashy Trailer

    Ferra joining the kameo roster.

The next DLC character for Mortal Kombat 1 is Takeda Takahashi, WB Games and NetherRealm Studios have announced. The news comes alongside a splashy gameplay trailer, showing off the playable fighter and all his fancy moves.

Takeda is a character first seen in Mortal Kombat X, a student of Scorpion and an adept fighter who uses serrated whips, explosive kunai, and teleportation to get the best of opponents. The character will be available starting on 23rd July for Kombat Pack owners, and then from 30th July for everyone else.

  • Dataminer Tips Terminator T-1000, Conan the Barbarian DLC for Mortal Kombat 1

    Hasta la vista, baby.

Mortal Kombat 1 looks like it will get a hefty dose of the Governator, with Conan the Barbarian tipped to be coming to the game, along as his immortal adversary, Terminator 2's T-1000. These iconic characters will supposedly be added to the game as a part of NetherRealm's next DLC drop, along with four others, two arenas, and five new announcers.

That's according to the efforts of Interloko (thanks, Eurogamer), who delved deep into the game's files and pulled out a fairly compelling list of characters. In addition to the aforementioned Arnie and adversary roles, series stalwarts can look forward to playing as cyborgs Cyrax and Sektor, franchise creator anadrome Noob Saibot, and perhaps most hilariously of all, Ghostface, the masked slasher from the Scream films. We've included the list below for convenience.

  • Homelander Takes Centre Stage in Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Trailer

Hold your applause until the end.

Warner Bros. Games has revealed our first look at Homelander, the next DLC character to come to Mortal Kombat 1. The supervillain made famous in Prime Video's hit show, The Boys, is a welcome addition to the roster and is touching down on the 4th of June, with the bestial Ferra joining the Kameo roster later in the month.

The Leader of The Seven and the most potent "Supe" on the planet, Homelander presents himself as the ultimate patriot and protector. Still, his Hollywood good looks and dazzling smile hide the narcissistic sociopath within. Using a potent combination of flight, super strength, and laser eyes, Homelander is like a dark reflection of Superman, and it remains to be seen how he fares against similarly super-powered characters, like Omni-Man from the Invincible series.

  • Mortal Kombat 1's Ermac Is Mere Days Away on PS5

    Mavado also shows some bravado.

Mortal Kombat 1 hasn’t quite exploded like previous entries in the franchise, which will perhaps leave developer NetherRealm and publisher Warner Bros wondering why. Still, there’s promised post-release content to be produced, and next in line is Ermac, who’ll be available from 16th April for Kombat Pack owners and 23rd April for peasants.

  • Mortal Kombat 1 Adds Peacemaker, Krossplay Support as Invasions Season 4 Gets Underway

    All in.

Mortal Kombat 1 is having a big day today. The grisly fighting game is not only kicking off Season 4: The Huntress, it's also adding a new playable character and crossplay — sorry, krossplay — functionality, opening up the community across all platforms.

So, as its name implies, Season 4 of Invasions mode is all about Mileena. She's become the main antagonist for this fresh season, which also adds new challenges, boss fights, and hundreds of cosmetic rewards to earn. Season 4 runs until 16th April.

  • Make Peace with Mortal Kombat 1's Peacemaker on PS5 from Next Week

    Cena heaven.

Mortal Kombat 1 has, surprisingly, been somewhat overshadowed by the success of Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 – but it’s still a great game in its own right. NetherRealm Studios naturally has always had robust support plans for the release, and that will continue with the addition of guest character Peacemaker from 28th February.

The press release teases: “Quan Chi’s necromancing powers and manipulation of portals are on full display, including his ability to summon skulls, skeletons, and NetherRealm demons for devastating attacks.” The trailer also includes a brief glimpse of Kameo character Khameleon, who will arrive in January.

  • Mortal Kombat 1 Fans Are Going to Extreme Lengths to Avoid Microtransactions

A battle between fans and financiers.

Back in the day, the only reason you’d consider changing the date of your console’s clock is for Easter eggs, like The End boss battle in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. But it’s 2023, almost 2024, and now players are manipulating time due to more nefarious reasons: namely the controversial microtransactions in Mortal Kombat 1.

As you may already know, developer NetherRealm has started flogging skins from the release’s Invasion Mode in its in-game store. These can be purchased with a premium currency named Dragon Krystals, and include outfits previously available for free through gameplay as part of the title’s seasonal updates.
