  • 2 animals left for 178/178 compendium… won’t spawn

I have the fer de lance snake and sonora toad left.

I know the spawn rate drops when you have the last couple to grab as this is my 3rd playthrough. My last playthrough, I found the fer de lance snake at stillwater creek west of thieves landing. But after 3 irl days, it’s not there.

Is there another spot for that snake? Also, what’s the spawn mechanic? Is there a cooldown period or do I need to sleep a certain number of times or reload the game a certain number of times? Please help.

  • If RDRD2 was set in another country...

So I was thinking that, to me, RDRD2 is basically about America. It touches on a huge amount of US history - at its core it is about the loss of the American dream and the freedom of the frontier, but it also touches on the legacy of slavery and the Civil War, the rise of industrialists and finance capitalists and environmental destruction caused by them, the emergence of the female suffrage movement, the plight of the Native Americans, rumblings of revolution in Cuba, even the rise of modern industries defined by the US such as advertising.

It really seems like a microcosm of the US at a time in its history which can encompass a lot of things which remain relevant today and are also somewhat foundational to the contemporary US worldview.

It made me wonder - what would a game which accomplished the same things for my country (the UK) look like and where would it be set?

I think for the UK, the TV show Peaky Blinders (set in Birmingham during the inter-war period) accomplishes something similar. As the birthplace of the industrial revolution, the UK's industrial heritage plays a big role in our self perception and cultural formation, and the 1920s General Strike and Communist agitation of that era really touches on that, and also on social class and how working class identity was forged in crowded factories and cities black with pollution.

The social context of anger and PTSD as a result of the first world war (wherein we lost 2% of our population and more or less an entire generation of young men were lost physically or psychologically) ties in with important themes about the blowback from imperialism and the nationalist jingoism underlying it, as well as the rage against the upper classes for sacrificing so many people needlessly.

The subplots around the IRA and the Irish war of independence raging around the time are also important, as they touch on the decline of Empire (foundational to the modern UK worldview and context) and also longstanding fissures between an anglicised British identity which Celtic nations (Ireland, Scotland, Wales) have never fully accepted, as well as the religious conflicts between Catholicism and Protestantism which, while less relevant today, are also foundational to the country.

As the gang rises during the TV show, we also see them living in idyllic country estates and mingling with the aristocracy. The rise of fascism and the clouds of a new war emerging are part of the era, and I'd say that the defeat of the British Union of Fascists in favour of a kind of a social democracy are also foundational to modern Britain - something like Cable Street, London's multicultural Docklands area which was also the site of a dramatic and violent showdown between the fascist Blackshirts and the labour movement would definitely have to be featured, especially as the multicultural aspect and it's link to the British Empire is an important aspect of the UK.

So a map of a British open world equivalent to RDRD2 would need to feature a dirty industrialised and impoverished city full of striking unions and Communist agitators, rural areas with idyllic pastoral scenes and rolling hills full of wealthy aristocrats and country estates where the well heeled play golf and race horses, some kind of multicultural Docklands area part of a larger city based on London where there is a fascist movement rising, and of course some kind of representation of Ireland in the midst of a guerilla war.

I would be interested to hear, if you are from a different country, what a game would look like which achieves for your country what RDRD2 achieved for the USA?

  • The one thing I genuinely hate about this game. What's 1 thing YOU genuinely hate about this game?

The awful wanted system. I haven't even caused trouble in Blackwater this save, and the cop managed to tell the town who I was via Bluetooth before he died. Bro like WHAT HOW
