Angry Birds is a comedy-based media franchise created by Finnish-based game developer, Rovio Entertainment. As with the Angry Birds free game, Angry Birds Comics takes place on Piggy Island, where a flock of birds protects the eggs from some hungry pigs.
In March 2014, IDW Publishing announced the original publishing of Angry Birds Comics written by Paul Tobin. A relaunch of the Angry Birds Comics was set in motion by the summer of 2017 by GoComics announced that would be based on the world of The Angry Birds Movie. The relaunched strip places full emphasis on Red, Chuck, Bomb, and the rest of the Angry Birds gang into their entanglement with their nemesis of green pigs. To underscore the popularity of the collective Angry Birds franchise, by July 2015, the series' games had been downloaded billions of times making it one of the most downloaded freemium game series of all time.
