  • Synchronizing with locations in real life

Recently had a chance to visit Athens, I made sure I captured some of the famous structures like the Parthenon, Temple of Poseidon etc. So here's a few

  • Wish Bayek got the same trilogy treatment as Ezio. Easily one of ACs best protagonist
  • AC1 and AC2 - Brotherhood - Revelations maps say a lot about Altaïr and Ezio

(Own text translated with Google translator. I apologize for any translation errors)

I’m a new player of Assassin’s Creed (the franchise as a whole) and I just finished the first game. I’ve already started the second one and noticed how the map elements have increased dramatically. Obviously, this is due to it being a new game with new mechanics (and within the lore of the second game, it’s because of the new Animus), but I came up with a personal theory to explain this difference based on the personalities of the first two assassins in the series: Altaïr and Ezio.

    1. Altaïr was born into the Order, and his life is 100% dedicated to it. He’s serious, a jerk at the beginning of the game, extremely focused on his goal, and his life is the Creed. You could say (based solely on the game—I haven’t read the book) that he doesn’t know or care about anything beyond that, and this is reflected in his map, which only shows missions. No contacts beyond the hideouts in each city, and he only interacts with outsiders to interrogate them or save them from guards who are assaulting them.
    2. Ezio, on the other hand, is the son of Giovanni Auditore, a banker from Florence. He began his life as an assassin already grown up, with the story you already know. The game shows that he’s well-known around the city and has a very active social life, let’s say. He frequently walks around the city, goes on adventures, meets all kinds of people, and is very popular. This is reflected in his map, which is full of icons marking various interaction points with different people throughout the city.

That’s basically it. I don’t know if this seems obvious to longtime fans, but these were some details I noticed while playing, and I thought they were really cool, so I wanted to record them here.

  • What made the old AC games so good?
  • Nothing will ever touch the lighting in Unity
  • The modern games don’t have the same charm because there’s no longer a sense of urgency.

After playing through every game in the series, I’ve come to the conclusion that yes, the modern games are completely different than the old games, to the point where it almost doesn’t feel like the same series anymore, but in not because of RPG mechanics or a lack of assassins in the stories. It’s because there’s no longer a sense of Urgency. The first five games (AC, AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and AC3) all contain an overarching story that is just as important, if not more important, than the story inside the animus. You felt like you were actually playing the game for a reason: to find the apple before the Templars, to open the Grand Temple, and shield the Earth from the Coronal Mass Ejection. Everything after Desmond’s death doesn’t NEED to be done. I enjoyed Ubisoft bringing back a sense of urgency with the quest for Sage DNA in Black flag and Unity, or the search for the shroud to prevent Abstergo’s Phoenix project in Syndicate (I’m still pissed that they ended that story arc in a comic that nobody read instead of a game). Every game from Origins onward though, just doesn’t feel like there’s any point. Like you’re just playing through memories to play through memories. We even find out in Valhalla that there’s a second Coronal Mass Ejection coming and Layla sacrifices herself to assist Desmond in finding a way to stop it. However, this just feels like an afterthought as none of the characters seem really too concerned about it. (I also still don’t understand why the Assassins were so unconcerned about Layla disappearing and Loki coming back in her place. They just don’t question it. The ending of Valhalla is weird). Mirage has no scenes outside the animus, and at least as far as I am into Shadows, I’m yet to leave the animus. So what’s the point? What are the assassins doing? Just sitting around hoping Desmond and Layla find a solution? And if they do? What then? They’re no longer physical beings and are trapped in Yggdrasil, and as we saw with Layla, the radiation in Yggdrasil will kill anyone who enters.

  • Seems that the Shadows' "June update" mentioned in the roadmap wont' keep the usual "three weeks schedule" of the previous ones

Shadows' previous updates have been published on May 6th and May 27th - three weeks apart from each other. A "June update" was showed in the roadmap, but it hasn't been announced for this week (three weeks after the last ones)... guess that the updates don't have a regular schedule, after all?

Assassin’s Creed Shadows Post launch Roadmap Update – A first look at what’s coming next!

I feel that the marketing for the game still sucks, even after the launch: vague information, spare communications (when are they going to release a new "Animus project"? When can we expect to know what they have in store for the next months? When can we expect NG+ and the other stuff already announced?).

I get that development isn't easy and that stuff takes time, but it's really hard to mantain interest for the game if we don't know when to expect new content...

  • What do you guys think of my Ezio fan art ?
  • Playing through the old AC games to fall back in love with the series

I have been a huge fan of the AC series since the first game in 07. The Ezio Trilogy continued my love for the series. Hated Ac 3 when it came out and took a break from the series until Origins. I have mixed feelings on the RPG entries.

I have been replaying the old AC games to rekindle my love for the series. Currently playing the ET and loving it. AC 2 was amazing. Brotherhood has been great so far too, but after grinding out AC 2 it doesn’t seem as good as. Gameplay is better but AC 2 is just perfect. Excited to play Revelations after, this one has always had a soft spot for me due to the closing of Ezio’s story.

After the ET, I want to play some of the AC games I skipped after AC 3. On my list is Black Flag, Rogue and Unity.

BF always has amazing reviews and is very highly rated, so I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy that one.

I never even heard of Rogue until the other day. It gets pretty bad reviews but the story really interests me. And gameplay looks identical to BF, so how bad can it be?

Unity seems to have a huge fan base. Something about this game has always drawn me away from starting it. Parkour and fighting looks great from what I can tell though.
